Welcome to Chiropractic Thoughts
It's been a lnog time since there was dialogue on FACE. I hope this vehicle can spur thought and discussion. We'll give it a try. If there are topis you would like to discuss please write me. I will be posting my first official "Thought" in the next day or two. Some are probaly looking forward to it as the first intelligent thought I have ever had. Don't get your hopes up to high! I am not quite sure how all this blog thing works so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Am I supposed to sign this or is it understood that I wrote it? Joe

Dr. Strauss,
ReplyDeleteWould you be able to share some insight onto how students can support the advancement of our profession and how that may have been different from what was needed in the past.
Additionally, how when students graduate and have other burdens how we can keep our dedication to the profession strong but not be taxed by it.
My impression is that students and DCs feel that it takes too much time/money to get involved and I hope I'm wrong.

Hi Joe, Thanks for setting up this blog. I think it will be a good medium for communication. This is one of the ways people "talk" these days.Of course, "you never know how far reaching something ..." I hope what is said here reaches people far,far away.
ReplyDeleteDear Alvin,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your question. It is gratifying to know that a student from Canada is interested in the philosophy. Here are my suggestions:
1. Get more interested in studying the Philosophy. I would humbly reccommend that you start with the Blue Books.
2. Get invloved with philosophy discussion groups. The more you talk about the philosphy, the more it becomes a part of you. Use a Pivot or Blue Book or Green Book to stimulate more discussion.
3. Write philosophy articles for the school paper or whatever vehicle you can find. If you need help editing ask someone on this blog. They would be happy to give you help.
4. Bring in speakers. Reggie and I will come for expenses and I'm sure there are others.
Hope this helps. Perhaps some others on the blog have suggestions. Anyone?
Hi Alvin,
ReplyDeleteI am starting my first office and will give you some suggestions.
1 - Support your profession by being successful as a business and personally. Support groups like the FSCO initially and get more involves as you have more resources.
2 - Study business.I know the debt most new DC's carry, so get the business going and profitable ASAP.
3 - Start SIMPLY. Don't get caught up in fancy stuff. A professional looking office doesn't have to cost a lot. Start small and get bigger.
4 - Develop everything - patient education, the structure of your dialogue during the consults, exam, adjustments, etc. NOW. Make them consistent with your Chiropractic values and follow good business and marketing structure as well. Remember, you are running a BUSINESS! Your ability to communicate your message so the patient values what you are offering is primary.
5 - As a student, study resources who are good at their job. Many DCs try to pass off as "experts" in other fields (marketing, etc), but get the information from actual marketing experts. SCORE is a great resource for people to help build a solid business plan and proposal.
If you have any other questions, fire away!
